Follow on Google News | South Bristol Cultural Center Announces Art at the Barn FestivalEnjoy a day full of arts and crafts in scenic Canandaigua. The first area festival in 2008!
By: Finger Lakes Copywriting Applications for artists who wish to participate are available online at http://www.southbristolculturalcenter.org. Business sponsorships forms are available online, as well. The application deadline is March 10th. Best of Show winner at the Art at the Barn Festival will receive $50.00 and a free booth rental in 2009. The Susanne Gardner Kennedy Gallery and Gift Shop, which features work by local artists, writers, and musicians, will be open during the festival. The gallery and gift shop is open by chance or by appointment during the winter. South Bristol Cultural Center's 2008 season officially runs from April 1st - December 20th and regular gallery/gift shop hours will then be Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Proceeds from this year's festival will support South Bristol Cultural Center's programming and outreach efforts, while furthering their mission of making the arts affordable and accessible to all. The 2008 season will feature the Music in the Barn concert series, discussions on travel and world cultures, classes on a variety of disciplines such as yoga, karate, culinary arts, in addition to art classes for children and adults. SBCC's outreach efforts will continue as they enter a second year of a joint art program for youth with the Salvation Army in Canandaigua. Also, the Cultural Center is a proud partner with Wood Library in “The Big Read: Canandaigua Reads The Great Gatsby.” The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. SBCC and Wood Library are honored to be a grant recipient to promote a community reading of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel through a month-long series of programs beginning in mid-May. Through collaborations with many local organizations, businesses, and schools, including Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, Fiddlehead Concepts, Ontario County Historical Society, All Things Art, Steamboat Landing, Canandaigua Academy, Finger Lakes Community College, Quail Summit, the Greater Canandaigua YMCA and Wegmans, SBCC and Wood Library hope to recreate the Roaring Twenties in Canandaigua through a series of book discussions, films, music performances, a one-woman play about Zelda Fitzgerald, an exhibit of 1920's fashion, and much more.
