May 13, 2008 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES - Sophie Mokhtari has not only survived the challenges that life has thrown her way, she's thrived as a result of them. And now the passionate NBC Universal Executive has written a book that engages the heart and forces conversations to take place about the challenges that women in this country face today:

 One out of every five women in the U.S. has been raped at some point in her lifetime.
 Every year, nearly 415,000 women between the ages of 15 and 19 give birth. Between 75 and 95 percent are unplanned.
 Ten percent of teenage girls in the U.S. are self-injurers, also known as “cutters.”
 Domestic violence is the most common cause of injury to women between ages 15 and 44.

“We all have universal themes that play out in our life,” said Sophie Mokhtari, author of “China Girl: A Daughter's Journey,” the first in the Lemonade Series of books, due for release from Writers of the Round Table Press in August 2008. “This book is about empowering women of all ages and all walks of life. I want these women to know that they're not alone. I lived the life of a China Girl, and my goal is to help others not just to cope with their circumstances, but to rise above them and embrace life.”

Sophie's power and passion come through as more than just a momentary escape into fiction. “China Girl” tells the story of two women - a mother and daughter - who are raised in a culture that demands silence. Each one endures a series of life-altering events, including alcoholism, unwanted pregnancy, incest, sexual abuse, and abandonment.

“Sophie is a dynamo. She has tremendous ambition and professionalism and that combination makes her voice unstoppable,” said Publisher Corey Blake. “She will make a huge difference in the lives of a massive number of people; I have no doubt about that. I think she has a deep desire to make a difference in the world that has been a part of her for a long time. Something clicked with Sophie, and she knew that now was her time.”

Born in Hong Kong, Sophie's latest quest, in addition to her career at NBC Universal, is to develop her passion for writing and literature and to simply pursue something that fuels her soul. "China Girl" and the Lemonade Series are a result of that passion. To learn more about the book, visit http://www.chinagirlbook.com.
