Follow on Google News | School Committee Approves Samuel Fuller School in MiddleboroughDATELINE: MIDDLEBOROUGH, MASS. The Middleborough School Committee formally approved the opening of Samuel Fuller School, a new classical and Christian School that is scheduled to open its doors to students in grades K-3 this fall.
By: Samuel Fuller School Although technically a school committee’s approval under G.L. chapter 76, sec.1 simply means that Massachusetts children attending the private school may do so without violation of the compulsory attendance law, now the Samuel Fuller School can move forward in its plan to accept applications, enroll students, hire teachers, and do all the other things that a school must do to begin operation. The Samuel Fuller School submitted its Articles of Organization and By-laws, Curriculum Guide, Parent/Student Handbook and Yearly Calendar in order to obtain approval by the Committee. “We believe that we will be offering families on the South Shore the absolute best that a school has to offer,” said Mrs. McKenna. She continued, “We will be using classical content and classical methods that have stood the test of time with age-appropriateness, high standards and order and beauty in the classroom. A classical education enables students to recognize true virtue and wholesomeness as they come in contact with all that is good in our culture. It allows them to develop the ability to make sound judgments and decisions as they mature. The finest in every field of study, literature, fine arts, science and so on – sets the standard in a classical education.” Classical education has been making a phenomenal return to the field of education across the country in the last decade or two and currently there are at least 205 schools with more than 29,000 students enrolled in the Association of Classical and Christian schools alone. Student in these classical schools are scoring exceptionally well on standardized tests and achieving high levels of success as they further their education at the finest schools in the nation. About the Samuel Fuller School Opening in September 2008, Samuel Fuller School will begin with grades K through 3 and add a grade each year thereafter. Classes will be held in the Christian Education Building of the First Congregational Church, 6 Plympton Street, Middleborough, Mass.
