WCPE “Preview!” Features Women’s Voices Chorus

WCPE’s weekly program “Preview!” will feature an interview with Allan Friedman, artistic director of the Women’s Voices Chorus. Ken Hoover, WCPE “Great Sacred Music” host, will discuss the Chorus' upcoming spring concert being held May 4.

The interview will air during the station’s Sunday, April 27 program that runs from 6-9 p.m. ET.

During the program, WCPE “Great Sacred Music” host Ken Hoover and Friedman will discuss the intricacies of the Chorus, as well as its upcoming spring concert being held May 4 at the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.

“We will explore Friedman’s approach to the unique qualities of a chorus of all women's voices,” says Hoover. “A rich repertoire of music for women’s voices exists which Friedman hopes to expand.”

About Allan Friedman:
Allen Friedman serves as artistic director of the Women’s Voices Chorus, the Triangle’s only community-based classical chorus for sopranos and altos located in a Chapel Hill, N.C. He is also a Duke University assistant conductor of the Duke Chapel Choir, directs the Duke Vespers Ensemble, as well as directs the Duke Divinity School Choir. Originally from Duluth, Minn., Friedman earned his B.A. in music at Duke University. In the fall of 1997, he studied at the University of Natal, Durban in South Africa. In addition to conducting, Friedman has studied composition with Marjorie Merryman at Boston University and Steven Jaffe at Duke University, and has had several performances of his choral compositions, most notably his Holocaust Cantata "With Perfect Faith."
