April 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Pharmaceutical services company i3 (Basking Ridge, New Jersey) has acquired Russian CRO Lege Artis (Moscow).  Financial terms were not disclosed.

Lege Artis operates in Russia and the neighbouring states of Belarus and Ukraine.  It will complement i3’s existing East European facilities in Prague, Czechoslovakia; Wroclaw, Poland; and Belgrade, Serbia.

“Russia has become a strategic geographic area in the drug development process, with well educated and experienced medical doctors and a vast population of patients who are interested in participating in clinical trials,” said i3 CEO Glenn Bilawsky.  It is the seventh most populous country in the world, with most people centralised in large cities of more than one million inhabitants.  The Russian healthcare system concentrates medical specialists at large hospitals and research centres.

Lege Artis founder and CEO Dr Tatjana Zwereva will continue to lead the company, supported by her existing management team, including co-founder Dr Alexander Makarkov.  The company will be integrated into i3 Research, led by divisional president Nigel Page.
