We are delighted to announce that I Borghi Nascosti in the villages of Fossa and Villa S. The silver award is granted under the GREEN Building Standard (GBS), an award system that identifies those property developments worldwide which are built with due regard to sustainability, the efficient use of water, energy efficiency and conservation of the world's natural resources.

The Green Building Standard is an internationally recognised award system which allows prospective purchasers of properties around the world to identify which developments are being built to high "Environmentally Friendly" standards.

I Borghi Nascosti is a sustainable tourism project created with the backing of the local city councils involved,  to promote medieval villages that are still off the beaten track. These hidden gems offer visitors the same traditional lifestyles that their more famous Tuscan and Umbrian counterparts boast - but, at a fraction of the cost.

Each Property Med recognised that the developers of the 'I Borghi Nascosti' project in Abruzzo were restoring the medieval properties in a way that had little impact on the environment and decided to put this unique project forward for scrutanisation for a GBS award. One of the key aims of the I Borghi Nascosti project is to use as much local and recycled materials in the restoration process of these magnificent medieval properties.

Colin Barrett-Treen, Managing Director of environmentally friendly property specialists, said “We are delighted to have been able to grant our “Silver GREEN Building Standard” award to I Borghi Nascosti.  The project is being developed in a highly sensitive and sustainable way.  Developing existing buildings rather than creating new ones on virgin land, plus sourcing a significant amount of additional materials locally (including recycled materials) results in a truly “Green” property development”.

Sarah Child from Each Property Med said 'Having been selling property on the I Borghi Nascosti project, we knew that this was a very special project with 'green' credentials at its heart.  The aim of the project is to breathe life back into these delightful medieval villages – but not at the cost of the earth nor at prices that cost the earth!'
