April 18, 2008 - PRLog -- Abacus, the Dorset based vehicle hire specialist, is planning to expand its commercial vehicle maintenance facility as demand grows from businesses in the region for their Service Whilst Hiring package, and their Fleetcare system for businesses that do not have their own transport managers. The company also supports national contract hire groups as a registered hire and maintenance provider.

Dave Wolfenden, Managing Director at Abacus, says that their team of mechanics and technicians who were originally dedicated to service, repair and MOT prep their own fleet of 300 cars, vans, trucks and motorhomes, but the increasing demand from corporate customers to use the facilities will now support the company’s long term expansion plans.

“Over the last 5 years we have seen vehicles from outside our own fleet in servicing and bodywork facilities grow to take 40% of our man hours,” said Dave Wolfenden. “We have the capacity within our Ferndown hire centre to meet additional growth and recruit at least 3 additional personnel.”

The company has recently successfully recruited through the Bournemouth and Poole College Full Motor Vehicle Mechanics Apprenticeship scheme.

Founded in 1987, Abacus the £3.75 million turnover hire specialist now employs 27 personnel with a fleet of 300 vehicles.  The company not only provides daily hires, contract hire and sales for cars, vans, trucks (including tractor units) motorhomes and trailers, but extensive vehicle maintenance and bespoke body building facilities.
