Kymberlee Kaye Raya creates competitive dance team in Illinois

Kymberlee Kaye Raya creates a youth program as a high school feeder program for girls looking to compete in competitive dance.

April 5, 2008 - PRLog -- Park Ridge, Illinois - Maine South has one of the best dance programs in the nation. Their dance teams have won more competitions than any other sport at Maine South High School. For this reason the sport of dance is a hot commodity in Park Ridge and the surrounding cities.

Kymberlee Kaye Raya, mother of two boys, and avid community volunteer decided to do something about that. She and another Park Ridge neighbor, Mr. Paul Sheehan, developed a concept to create a youth program that could ultimately feed into any high school dance program. Mr. Sheehan has a daughter that currently dances at Maine South, Taylor Sheehan. Together, they created The Sky Dance Team. Tryouts were held in September 2007 and had over 100 girls showing up to tryout. Two teams were selected made up of 16 girls each.

The teams will compete in the Team Dance Illinois competition series over the next several months. They will also host a youth dance camp at Oakton Community College over the holiday break. “It is unbelievable how many girls are interested in dance. Our response has been overwhelming”., states Kymberlee Raya.

The Sky Dance is a Park Ridge Park District affiliate. You can visit their website at www.kicktothesky.com. Contact Kymberlee Raya at kym@bigshotmarketing.com for more information.
