The Royal Mint Introduced New Designs for the UK Coins.

The UK is officially replacing the old coinage with the new one. It is worth mentioning that the old designs featured on UK coins for about four decades. The new UK coins will continue maintaining the English coinage tradition.
 
April 3, 2008 - PRLog -- The new UK coins on their reverse include the entire Shield of the Royal Arms, the obverse hasn't been changed and features the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen.

Chosing the design of the new UK coins was performed via an open competition, which had been announced in August of 2005. 4,000 entries attended the competition. he winner was Matthew Dent, 26-year-old man from London.

All six new coins (from 1 pence till 50 pence) together form the Shield of the Royal Arms. According to the Royal Mint the new coins of the United Kingdom will be inctroduced into circulation gradually during the year.
