March 28, 2008 - PRLog -- El Monte, California.  Nuvein Foundation for the Literature and the Arts is holding a comic book festival in the San Gabriel Valley on Sunday, April 6, 2008.  Comic book fans will get a chance to meet and buy books directly from self-published artists.  The festival is being held by the Nuvein Foundation to promote the arts to the local community.  The event is free to the public and all ages are welcome.

In addition to meeting artists, there will be two free workshops where fans can learn techniques to write and draw comic books.  The writing workshop will be given by Rafael Navarro creator of Sonambulo and animator for Batman and various TV cartoons.  The drawing and storytelling workshop will be conducted by Mike Wellman of AtomicBasement.com and creator of Mac Afro.  Both Mr. Navarro and Mr. Wellman are veterans of the comic book industry.

Also happening during the festival will be a live taping of the online talkshow, Planet Comic Book Radio hosted by Javier Hernandez.  The hour long segment will cover everything comic books including interviews of artists and reviews of comic book issues.  Fans at the workshop will get a treat because they'll be able to watch live a comic book radio show and then listen to the podcast at PlanetComicBookRadio.com (http://planetcomicbookradio.com) at their leisure.  Besides hosting an Internet radio talkshow, Javier Hernandez also pens and inks El Muerto, a comic book based on an Aztec mythology.  In 2007, a movie adaptation of El Muerto was released in DVD as "The Dead One" with Wilmer Valderrama in the starring role.  "The Dead One" is available at your local DVD store for rent and purchase.

Proceeds raised by the Nuvein Foundation (http://nuvein.org) go towards scholarships awarded to students of creative arts and arts program held to benefit local communities.

The San Gabriel Comic Book Festival will be at The Cuban Club of San Gabriel Valley, 10960 Lower Azusa Rd. El Monte, California, corner of Santa Anita and Lower Azusa, 11AM-5PM.  Admission is free to the public.
