On April 4th, Michael V. Roberts, Sr., Chairman, CEO  and Founder of the Roberts Companies, will be inducted into Morehouse College’s first-ever Hall of Fame, as part of the university’s international Science and Spiritual Awareness Week. The prestigious ceremony is part of a historical, week-long series of events that mark the 40th anniversary remembrance of the death of civil rights pioneer and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., themed Gandhi-King-Ikeda-Hassan Perennial Season for Non-Violence (March 30th - April 6th).

The inaugural event will kick off Morehouse’s annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where the college will honor and inaugurate exceptional individuals who have made significant contributions in the spirit of the late Dr. King’s philosophies. This year’s event will take place on Friday, April 4th, at 11:00 am, at Morehouse College, in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, 830 Westview Drive S.W. Atlanta. During the event, Morehouse will induct Roberts along with ten other extraordinary leaders who have uniquely exemplified qualities that are the hallmarks of the life and teachings of Dr. King.

The first class of Martin Luther King International Board of Renaissance Leaders Hall of Fame Inductees include: Bill Duffy, Blair Underwood, Congressman Charles Rangel, Keith Wyche, Kent Amos, Phillip Emeagwali, William R. “Billy” Martin, Raymond McGuire, R. Donahue Peebles, Reuben Cannon and Michael V. Roberts.

Michael is recognized as one of the world’s most successful African-American entrepreneurs and preeminent innovators in business, philanthropy, and corporate and social commitment. A self-made businessman he has, along with his brother Steven, created a nearly $900 million empire.  The Roberts’ notably owns and operates the largest African-American owned and operated hotel group and has assembled a business portfolio consisting of eleven national hotels; Roberts Marriott Courtyard (Dallas,TX),  Roberts Holiday Inn-SW (Houston, TX), Roberts Clarion (Shreveport, LA), Roberts Comfort Inn & Suites (Ft. Myers, FL), Roberts Comfort Inn & Conference Center (Busch Gardens/Tampa, FL), Roberts Radisson (Spartanburg, SC), Roberts Crowne Plaza Marietta-Atlanta, Roberts Vista Clarion (Memphis, TN), Roberts Hotel Indigo (CWE), St. Louis Wyndham, Roberts Mayfair Wyndham Convention Center District and Roberts Vista Downtown (all in St. Louis, MO).  

In addition, the Roberts Companies includes the largest non-public communications tower company, a private jet aviation company, the first all green, inner-city, single family residential development, the largest 100 percent African-American, owned and operated television group consisting of four television stations and one radio station, a full-service PR, Branding & Multimedia firm in St. Louis/Atlanta, The R Agency, and the largest, most diverse mixed use real estate development group with residential, retail and commercial developments throughout the United States and Bahamas.

Most recently, Michael and his brother were honored with the coveted Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Award for their Roberts Hotel Group in the Emerging Business category. The award recognizes global leaders and visionaries who demonstrate innovation, financial success and personal commitment as they create and build world-class businesses.

Additionally, Roberts serves as the first and only African-American member of the International Council of Shopping Centers Board of Trustees (ICSC), the Chairman of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD) and a lifetime member of the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi.

Michael is a highly-sought after public speaker and author, who penned the popular book, Action Has No Season: Strategies and Secrets to Gaining Wealth and Authority. He has been featured in Forbes, Black Enterprise, Business Week, St. Louis Business Journal, Fortune, and as Black Enterprise Television’s top Power Players, and was most recently featured on PBS' Nightly Business Report, amongst others. Michael has been honored with hundreds of business accolades and is a renowned speaker who has served as the guest speaker at  Harvard Business School, Morehouse College, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Northern Ohio Minority Business Council, Kansas African-American Museum, St. Louis University, Jackson State University, National Urban League and University of Missouri, to name a few.
