Oprah & Friends - Rabbi Shmuley of Shalom in the Home on TLC talks about the Elliot Spitzer tragedy

March 18, 2008 - PRLog -- Rabbi Shmuley Boteach is host of the daily national radio program, "The Rabbi Shmuley Show" on Oprah & Friends, XM Satellite Radio, and host of the award-winning national TV show, Shalom in the Home on TLC.

On March 18th, Rabbi Shmuley interviewed Paul F. Davis author of Adultery 101 and Stop Lusting & Start Living about the tragedy effecting Elliot Spitzer and male infidelity destroying families nationwide.

Paul who is no stranger to adultery (detailed in his book Breakthrough For A Broken Heart), which Davis suffered himself personally when his wife of 5 years had an affair and thereafter remained unrepentant, answered the Rabbi respectfully saying:

"Lust is not love, nor is it life; but a sexy spouse makes a happy house."

"Sure sex like drugs is often an illusion, as you mentioned President Clinton admitting the sex with Monica Lewinsky was horrible."

"Male hormones drive us and testosterone tests us. The American male typically is not deeply connected to God, nor are they spiritually empowered to overcome the flesh. So they need to be trained in Adultery 101 and taught to Stop Lusting & Start Living."

"If your wife does not take care of your needs sexually there is not going to be Shalom in the home.  With all due respect Rabbi you may be holy, but as a man you get horny."    

"If you’re getting filet mignon at home, you’re not going to go looking for burgers on the street."

Davis feels Silda Spitzer acted honorably to stand by her man under the most difficult circumstances publicly and should be respected rather than reprimanded. "At such a devastating time in her life, Mrs. Spitzer needs love and compassion, not a finger of ridiculing accusation."

Rabbi Shmuley wisely made mention of the fact that the most beautiful of women (such as Christy Brinkley whose husband Billy Joel alledgedly cheated on her), cannot keep a broken, male shattered ego from seeking sex outside of marriage.

Paul agreed conveying his sentiments for Christy who now has experienced adultery twice in marriage.  Nevertheless Davis also recognized that sexual addiction is just as real as drug addiction.  Paul mentioned his own dog, an irish setter who didn't hesitate to risk his own life, running across a busy and deadly highway to get to a dog in heat in a distant neighborhood.
