Precision Dynamics Corporation “Partner in Patient Safety” Campaign to Award $10,000 in Products

Company Partners with “Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare” Magazine to raise patient safety awareness and promote hospital systems that prevent errors

March 12, 2008 - PRLog -- Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), the leading identification wristband company, has teamed with Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare to award hospitals that are taking innovative measures to better protect patients. Through its “Partner in Patient Safety Campaign,” PDC will award $10,000 in free wristband products to the hospital that submits the best patient safety success story, as chosen by a select judging committee. Three additional honorees will be awarded $1,000 each in products.

On November 10, the winning stories will be announced through a national publicity and press release campaign that will include special coverage in Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare Magazine; posting of the success stories on PDC’s website; and awarding of certificates of excellence in patient safety. The contest launched March 2, 2008, and ends on August 4, 2008.

With recent studies revealing that one in 10 U.S. patients is injured and nearly 100,000 die every year from preventable medical errors, PDC is focused on how it can help hospitals improve patient safety outcomes. “There’s no denying the amount of discouraging news lately on medical errors and their immediate effect on human lives,” said PDC President & CEO Gary Hutchinson. “Traditionally, hospitals were quick to place blame on the individual caregiver who made the mistake. But now, through a more advanced approach, we’re focusing on systematic changes and using automated technologies to prevent medical errors. Our campaign is geared toward recognizing these hospitals, and helping other facilities learn from them to better maximize safety and improve patient outcomes,” said Hutchinson.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities can participate in the contest by visiting a special Patient Safety section on PDC’s website: www.pdcorp.com/patientsafety. The section features a comprehensive selection of resources on how hospitals and healthcare facilities can better protect patients; hospital success stories using PDC wristband systems; and timely articles on patient safety and medical error prevention. PDC will launch new interactive features and accompanying events throughout the year on the site.

Susan Carr, editor of Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare said, “We’re happy to partner with PDC to nationally showcase hospitals that are really making a difference in patient safety through improved culture and better processes.” She and Hutchinson will serve on a judging committee with Tamara R. Chandler, BSN, RN, JD, Director of Patient Safety at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois, and Maggie Lohnes, RN, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, Administrator of Clinical Information Management at MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, Washington to select the top success stories.

In selecting the winning success story, emphasis will be placed on ways that clinicians use innovative products and effective processes to prevent medical errors and improve patient safety.

Complete rules and criteria for PDC’s Patient Safety Success Story Campaign are located on the website. Persons can also obtain an award application via fax or mail by calling: 818-897-1111, ext. 1330.
