Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has Genie Awards 2008 nominees

Canadian films across a wide array of genres were innovative, entertaining and critically-acclaimed. And, many have been honoured with international awards and nominations, making it truly a year to celebrate.

Eastern Promises and Shake Hands with the Devil lead the nominees list for the 28th annual Genie Awards, Canada’s film awards.

Both Promises and Devil earned 12 nominations, followed by Away from Her with seven, The Tracey Fragments with six, Continental, a Film Without Guns and Silk, both with five and Denys Arcand’s Days of Darkness with four nominations.”2007 was an outstanding year for Canadian film and filmmaking talent, especially in English Canada,” said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “Canadian films across a wide array of genres were innovative, entertaining and critically-acclaimed. And, many have been honoured with international awards and nominations, making it truly a year to celebrate.”

The 28th annual Genie Awards were held in Toronto on Monday, March 3rd. The gala was telecasted on the E! Television Network in Ontario, Quebec, B.C. and Alberta, and nationally on the IFC digital cable channel.
