Metropolis Pictures Entertainment Presents The First On-line Global Movie Theatre

Filmmakers and major studios may now have world premieres seen internationally from the user's home.

Feb. 22, 2008 - PRLog -- Metropolis Pictures Entertainment, Inc. has announced the creation of an internet based movie theatre in which the visitor may enjoy a dazzling array of movie technology.   Metropolis Pictures Entertainment develops, finances, and produces independent feature films and television projects for the domestic and international marketplace.  The theatre may be accessed through the company’s website, http://www.metpix.com/.

In launching the theatre, a diverse genre of films from controversial film director Francis Xavier will be presented to the public for the first time ever.  These films include “Barry’s Gift”, “Johnny Come Lately”, Night Cry”, “The Tango Dancer”, and “Dodge City”. The theatre will also allow major studios and independent filmmakers from around the globe to showcase their films to a worldwide audience, either for a world premiere event or a week or weekend showing and be compensated (paid) for it.

Additionally, Metropolis Pictures Entertainment is currently in pre-production on the feature film, “The Desperate Ones,” which will be filmed in high definition.  The newly completed screenplay attracted one Hollywood executive producer who joined writer, director Francis Xavier and Metropolis Pictures Entertainment on this ambitious feature film project.  Metropolis Pictures Entertainment is being very smart about the scope of the film and is proud to be associated with such an impressive project.  Returning as producers on the project are Francis Xavier, Michael R. Kureth, and Duck Richardson.  “The western is a genre that refuses to die,” said Francis Xavier, who is pursuing major stars for the film including Josh Holloway (James ‘Sawyer’ Ford of “Lost”), Sydney Poitier (Tarantino’s “Grindhouse”), and Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs (“Monster’s Ball” and “A Raisin in the Sun”).

About The Online Movie Theatre
The theatre was conceived by Francis Xavier (Chief Executive Officer) and Mike Kureth (Chief Operating Officer) in June of 2007 after discussing the recent studio acquisition of “Johnny Come Lately”, “Night Cry”, and “The Tango Dancer”.  In copyrighting and patenting this invention, Kureth and Xavier are now offering this service to other independent filmmakers and major studios for free.  Any feature film approved by the panel will be available internationally and the producer/ director will be compensated for the ticket sales.

“The decision to decline our recent international distribution agreement of these films and allow other professionals to use this technology was made in effort of providing a service in the best interest of the filmmaker and customer,” said Kureth who developed and designed the theatre using the latest technology from Adobe Systems, Inc.  After a customer purchases a ticket in the store, the movie may be watched immediately online in the theatre in high resolution display at 864 x 486 (16:9 aspect ratio) or full screen mode for $1.99 to $4.99 a ticket via any operating system and internet browser.  As technology advances, the site will be updated accordingly.

Within the next three months, all of the films from Metropolis Pictures Entertainment will be subtitled dynamically in 13 languages in the theatre as will the entire site be available in the same languages which include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

About the Films
All of the films have been digitally enhanced into high definition and will be available to the public for the first time.

“Barry’s Gift” (2000), An Official Maryland Film Festival Selection, tells the story of Barry Russell, played by Lance Irwin (Mowi of second season “The Wire”) a small time psychic who makes his living doing Tarot Card readings.  When a dying, elderly tycoon (the late Richard Ruxton) offers big money to try and bring him back after his demise, Barry, with the help of his assistant/girlfriend Wendy, conjures up a showy spell to impress the son of the dead man.  No one is more surprised than Barry when the antic really works and the dead millionaire rises up as good as new!  With the help of a crafty PR agent, played by Francis Xavier, the film’s director, his gift attracts attention and Barry begins repeating this miraculous feat.  But whoops!  Barry doesn’t bother to learn how to return the souls to the bodies when resurrecting it.  Before long the undead start a murderous rampage.   “It shines if in a fairly heavy-handed manner.” Merle Bertrand - Film Threat Magazine.  “Barry’s Gift has that old classic look and feel that is seldom found in movies made today.” Greg Sprouts – Timeless Video

The controversial “Johnny Come Lately” (2004) tells the story of Paul Washington, a former serial killer profiler who must help the Aberdeen, Maryland Police Department track down a child murderer.  The story takes an uncanny twist as the lead character starts communicating with the dead.

“Night Cry” (2005) is a trilogy in the tradition of “Alfred Hitchcock’s Presents” and “The Twilight Zone”, which takes you on an excursion to the unknown.  Originally produced for the Sci-Fi Channel, Night Cry began as an original idea Francis Xavier, the show’s creator and executive producer, came up with twenty years ago for a television series on modern day horror.

“The Tango Dancer” (2006), a dance/horror film with a twist, tells the story of nightclub owner Sabatino Gardel, Johnny Alonso of the WB’s “One Tree Hill” and NBC’s “Dawson’s Creek”, who sees visions of murder from the killer’s point of view.  The film also stars the great Argentinean tango dancers Angel Garcia Clemente and Ponti Del Mercado.  “A film of questionable taste, but I loved it,” said Robert Duvall – actor, director “Assassination Tango”

“Dodge City” (2007) represents Xavier’s first urban drama, shot entirely on the mean streets of Baltimore City with the cooperation of the Baltimore City Police Department.  Dodge City is an urban drama/musical in the tradition of West Side Story; only it’s all happening on the East Side.  After the shooting death of a young girl, the story unfolds from the viewpoints of four different gangs.  The girl’s father, gang leader Johnny Johnson, seeks retribution against everyone in Dodge City (Baltimore) except for ex-gang member turned amateur race car driver Teddy Bear (Derrick Purvey, Big Man on HBO’s fourth and fifth seasons of “The Wire”) who must do something to stop the madness.  It’s a blend of music, murder and mayhem.
