The ever increasing demands placed on truck drivers is being felt industry-wide. Now a new company, D.O.T. EXPRESSS, is trying to do its part by alleviating at least some of the pressures being felt by truck drivers in one area - their D.O.T. physical examinations.
"Truck drivers are being asked to spend more and more time on the road. The last thing that they want to do is take precious time away from their families by spending two to three hours in a doctor's waiting room when they aren't driving," says D.O.T. EXPRESS founder Dr. Robert S. Striker.
"We offer the same service and the same thorough examinations as the occupational clinics, but we differ in a few important ways. First, we can come to you where you work - on the road or at the trucking company where you work. The second way we differ is that our office location, on I-80, Exit 120 at the Sapp Bros. Travel Center, in Clearfield, PA is on call 24/7. Try getting the occupational clinic to open its doors at 1am. It probably isn't going to happen. Lastly, we specialize in D.O.T. exams. That is all we do, so drivers are not waiting, like in other doctor's offices, as other high priority patients filter through."
Dr. Striker says that the services offered by D.O.T. Express are growing in popularity. "We are experiencing increased interest and excitement in our abilty to travel to trucking companies of various sizes and perform on-site D.O.T. physical exams and random drug screenings on a regular recurring monthly basis. Fleet managers really like the idea of the doctor coming to them on a monthly basis. It takes some of the pressure off of them and the safety team when trying to ensure the safety and compliance of their drivers."
