The European Training Foundation Invites ALISON and other ELIG Members to Partner in the MEDA Region

The European Training Foundation (ETF) Invites ALISON and other European Learning Industry Group (ELIG) Members to Partner in the MEDA Region.

Feb. 19, 2008 - PRLog -- The European Training Foundation (ETF), the European Union (EU) agency which supports education and training in countries surrounding the EU (MEDA Region), recently invited more industry involvement in its partner countries. Speaking at the recent European Learning Industry Group (ELIG) Forum in Dublin, Ireland, Muriel Dunbar, Director of the European Training Foundation and former Deputy Director of the British Council in Indonesia, cordially invited the European Learning Industry Group to collaborate with the ETF in its partnership efforts in the MEDA region.

Education and training have been identified by the ETF as key tools for promoting economic and social development in the MEDA region and for developing competitive economies in open markets, both of which are key items in the political agendas of the Euro-Mediterranean region countries. Mike Feerick, CEO of ALISON.com, commented at the forum that "the provision of freely available online essential skills training by organizations such as ALISON should be an important part of an e-learning strategy for the region."

The objective of the MEDA project is to support MEDA partners in the design and implementation of relevant technical and vocational education and training policies that can contribute to promoting employment through a regional approach. The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership’s Education and Training for Employment (MEDA-ETE) project is a regional initiative, implemented as part of the Barcelona process.

Since its launch in April 2007, ALISON has attracted many thousands of learners from the MEDA region. As of November 2007, ALISON has registered learners in every MEDA country including 10,000 registered learners from Egypt alone. The MEDA countries include Morrocco, Algeria, Tunisia (Magreb), Egypt, Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, Lebanon, Syria (Mashrek), Turkey, Cyprus and Malta.
