Siddarth recieves Khashabha Jadhav Award

The rising junior tennis player from Coimbatore, S.Sidharth recieved the Khashabha Jadhav award (instituted on the honour of the Olympian) from SNS College of Engineering on the First Sports Day of the Institute.
 
Feb. 17, 2008 - PRLog -- The one semester old SNS College of Engineering has made a name for itself by doing things differently and the Sports Day of the college on February 16 2008 was no exception. SNS College of Engineering(SNSCE) had hit upon to unite the past and future of Indian Sports on its Sports Day. On the first Sports Day of the institute, the college honoured young tennis player from the city (Coimbatore) S.Sidharth by bestowing the Khashaba Jadhav Award to him.

Khashaba Jadhav is India's first Olympic individual winner who won the bantam weight category in wrestling of the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. On the occassion of the First Sports Day, the college immortalised the hero by unveiling a special portrait on his honour and instituting an award in his name.

The award was received by S.Sidharth. S.Sidharth ranked # 8 in the National Under 18 Tennis Rankings has been a promising future star for Indian Tennis. The State Topper was recently selected for training at the reputed Nick Bolliteri Academy in USA.

S.Sidharth received the award from Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Correspondent, SNSCE.

Cdr. Vinod Gopalan, Controller of Examinations, Anna University, Coimbatore, Dr.S.N.Subbramanian, Director cum Secretary, SNSCE, Dr.G.Karuppuswami, Principal, SNSCE and Prof.R.Natarajan, AO, SNSCE were also present.

On receiving the award, Sidharth thanked the institute for bestowing the honour. He said the thing he could do in return was to do bigger things with his game and make the award as proud as Shri.Khashaba Jadhav. He felt the award added more responsibility to his approach.

Dr.G.Karuppuswami, Principal SNSCE said that this innovative award would be instituted to outstanding school sportspersons every year on honour of a legendary sportsperson. He was of the belief that this idea would help the future starts to keep the torch of the legends shining.

Mr.D.Saravanamoorthy, PD, SNSCE said that the names of Khashaba Jadhav and S.Sidharth were finalised by his Sports Day Committee comprising of faculty members and students. The Sports Day was celebrated in a novel format with the four departments naming, dressing and fighting it out in a league style. There were four teams "CSE Escorts" "ECE Despotz" "IT Periculum" and "EEE Helios". CSE ESCORTS pipped ECE DESPOTZ by three points to win the Rolling Trophy. Twelve sports events for boys and ten for girls were conducted for the occassion
