Nitrogen tyre technology from Parker cuts CV operating costs

Feb. 11, 2008 - PRLog -- The Process Filtration Division of Parker Hannifin, the world’s largest manufacturer of motion and control technologies, has launched the latest version of its innovative self-contained nitrogen generation system.  Called TyreSaver, the system enables the air used to inflate vehicle tyres to be replaced with nitrogen, helping commercial vehicle operators to extend both tyre life and vehicle safety, while reducing the overall costs of maintenance.

Nitrogen is widely used for tyre inflation in the motor sport and aviation sectors and in a number of European countries for car and commercial vehicle tyres.  The gas is inert and completely safe, making up 78% of breathable air.  Most importantly, by using it to reduce the concentration of oxygen in a tyre it possible to equalise the partial pressure between the air inside each tyre and the surrounding atmosphere.

As a result, the common problem of slow deflation caused by oxygen slowly leaking through the tyre wall is virtually eliminated, thereby ensuring that tyres remain at their correct pressures between vehicle servicing.  This has the added benefits of improving fuel consumption and of enhancing safety by minimising the danger of under inflation.

The TyreSaver system works by separating nitrogen and oxygen from breathable air, by means of a compressor and specially developed hollow fibre membrane filters.  The system is compact, simple to use and exceptionally energy efficient as it needs only a low operating pressure for the membrane filters to function effectively; additionally, as there are no moving parts TyreSaver is extremely reliable and requires only minimal maintenance.
TyreSaver is available in four different generator sixes, depending on the tyre filling requirements of each customer.  Based on one of the larger sizes of truck tyres at 385/65R22.2 at a pressure of 9 bar, the four versions allow from six to 35 tyres to be filled per hour; filling rates are proportionately higher with smaller tyres for vans or light commercials.
