Dread Monday? Network Your Way to a Better Job

Do you find it difficult to drag yourself out of bed? Do you want a new job but you don't know where or how to start? Are online job boards proving to be an ineffective and frustrating way to find jobs? Career networking is the answer.

Feb. 3, 2008 - PRLog -- Columbus, OH – More people are dreading Mondays. Job satisfaction is on the decline and people would simply prefer to stay in bed with the covers pulled up snug. The good news is that there is a way to find a better job: career networking.

Many jobs are never posted on job boards or in the classifieds. As a matter of fact, many surveys indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 jobs are found through job search activities such as career networking and HR managers say they consider referrals as a credible way to find new employees. But for many, the thought of networking causes one of two reactions. Either our stomach flips due to a panic attack. (You want me to ask someone for a job?) Or, our eyes roll back into our head and we try to stifle a yawn. (Networking never leads to anything!) It doesn’t have to be this way!

Networking is much more than handing your business card or resume to everyone you meet and making small talk at parties. Certified Professional Career Coach Sharon DeLay quickly dispels those myths, and many others, in her Network Your Way to Career Success seminar, part of her 180 Minutes to Career Success series.

Like many, Ms. DeLay was not happy with her own career situation so she set out to change it. Along the way, she created a strong network of colleagues, acquaintances, fellow human resources professionals, and more. The resulting networking connections have been invaluable in forming the foundation of Permanent Ink Professional Development Services, her career coaching business.

The skills and techniques presented in Network Your Way to Career Success are practical and easy to do. Ms. DeLay says, “Networking is not something that should cause anxiety. When done correctly, it can actually be fun and lead to great things.”

Ms. DeLay presents Network Your Way to Career Success on Thursday, February 21 from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, February 24 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Both sessions will be held at the office of RE/MAX Connection, Realtors located at 130 Mill Street in Gahanna.
