Jan. 31, 2008 - PRLog -- London UK – Designed to provide SMBs and SMEs with a flexible, advanced, yet affordable Gigabit networking solution, D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider today announced the launch of the DGS-3100 24-port Layer2 Gigabit Stackable Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switch. The DGS-3100-24P provides an entry-level solution to set up Gigabit connections to the desktop or build up a company-wide network backbone.

Part of D-Link’s family of feature-rich, low-cost Gigabit stackable switches, the DGS-3100 switch includes two dedicated HDMI stacking ports, each providing 5 Gigabit per second (Gbps) stacking bandwidth. Up to six units can be stacked up in a linear or fault-tolerant ring topology, for up to 20 Gbps overall system bandwidth in full-duplex, bi-directional mode. Units can be gradually added to the stack to accommodate growth. In addition, 802.3ad Link Aggregation allows multi-Gigabit links to be created between switches or to servers.

The DGS-3100 features 802.3af Power over Ethernet integrated into every switch port. Hence any 802.3af compliant device can be powered by the switch via the standard Ethernet cables, to a maximum of 15.4W per device. Combined with Gigabit connectivity, this provides future-proofing in preparation for next-generation 802.11n wireless devices.

The switch includes extensive security features such as multi-layer Access Control Lists (ACLs) and Guest VLAN for users yet to be authenticated. It supports advanced multicast features, Quality of Service (QoS) and bandwidth control. A unique feature, D-Link Safeguard Engine™, allows the switch to remain available in the event of a virus outbreak, which increases the switch's reliability and availability.

The DGS-3100 supports standard-based management protocols such as SNMP, RMON, Telnet, Web GUI and SSH/SSL security authentication. With DHCP auto-configuration, the administrator can pre-set configurations and save them in a TFTP server and individual switches can boot their IP from the server and load in the pre-set configurations.

Andrew Mulholland, UK Marketing Manager, D-Link, said: “D-Link fully understands the networking needs of SMBs and SMEs. Increasingly, they are looking for powerful, flexible Gigabit network backbone solutions with a low entry price. With its competitive pricing and flexibility, the DGS-3100 provides the ideal solution for organisations that want to maximize the performance of their network.”

Price and Availability

The DGS-3100 is available now with a recommended retail price of £945 +VAT. For more information visit www.dlink.co.uk.
