Hip Hop as a whole is a culture built on a lifestyle that incorporates both English & Spanish

The D.E.Y. is a group with potential, no need to put restraints on what they have created because some nimrods do not pay attention and give opportunities to change. Stress the word change, make sure you see why this is a method to growth.

Jan. 19, 2008 - PRLog -- There are always transitions taking place within everything we do, from our lifestyles to our form of entertainment.  We seem to jump in and out of fads more than we change our own underwear, and sometimes that can be good but most of the times its bad.  It’s good because we are always revolutionizing and delving into new and undiscovered arenas.  Scientists do it when they are in search of new cures for diseases; this brings forth great life changes for many.  Musicians do it so they are able to live a longer lifespan within the chosen genre and this causes great songs to be written and performed.  Now why is it that sometimes the most common changes are not received well?

We are in a currently experiencing some major changes in our communities as Hispanic People and as Americans through out.  Everything from the Presidential Race where we once were overlooked to having made such an impact in the U.S. that every candidate is making sure to include us in every aspect of their campaign.  We are a very strong force and are growing to the capacity that we can call our own shots if we actually chose to do so.  The largest minority in the country, with numbers growing to a point where we will one day have the majority spending dollars and population.  This is a huge change from many years ago, and definitely a good one!

As everyone can obviously tell we definitely made it a long way and are continuing to open doors through out all business and political areas, we are a demand!  Music over the last few years has shown that we can be the majority if pushed properly by our own people.  We are the only ones that can hurt or make what we do.  No one at this point has that control over us, because as a people we have such a powerful tool of unity that can only allow us to break down more walls than every before.  We only need to allow our own youth the ability to do so and the changes will continue like never before.  Freestyle & now Reggaeton are part of our rich past, two music genres we made popular and made World Wide, but yet we were not able to fully grab and control.

How can we let go of something we in fact created? Where could we have gone wrong?  It may be greed if looked upon closely but it may also have been pride!  We are a proud people and none of us can ever deny that, but to not grow something from the ground up and allow it to fully flourish is not the correct way to do things.  The beauty of our culture and our music has always been barrier breaking; Salsa, Merengue, Bachata & Musica Norteña are part of our life and have also become staples within the music industry nationwide.  We can go into any club and any of these genres plays and you have everyone including those of non-Hispanic descent on the floor dancing!  That’s what we need to be proud of, the fact that our music can cross language barriers no matter who is listening is a huge impact.

But none the less this is also something we overlook!  Have we not noticed what has happened within the last few years?  Spanish Music, by this I mean music that has all Spanish Lyrics has crossed over to all English stations and bringing in numbers that made many if not all Major record labels take notice and jump on board, only to fail because of the lack of knowledge needed to fully develop the movement.  We lost the control needed to continue the growth, both because we were ignorant on how we could maintain it to also letting ourselves get whored by those which would take advantage of such a new change.

Now we have D.E.Y. and an issue many may feel uncomfortable with but will bring up.  D.E.Y. is a good group of Hispanic artists that are right now breaking into the pop world and Hip Hop stations through out the country.  A group that many have come to appreciate, admire and enjoy the music they bring us.  The problem is that the blending of Spanish & English you find on their album is not being allowed to completely come out.  The marketing of the group is being changed to a more pop feel and are doing away with the Spanish parts of their songs all together.  Their new Hit “Give You the World” is a very creative and great sounding song that incorporates a blending of Spanish & English into a soulful hit.  But you will only truly experience a great album with the album; they are not fully pushing the original urban edit on radio or on video.  This is something that should not be done and has been decided by the record label.

Why would this be done?  If anything a song such as this may in fact may break barriers allowing for the mix of both languages to be accepted.  So why a company would put something so unique on a shelf for no one to market is beyond belief?  This is a crucial mistake and needs to be revisited, because the possibilities are very good the original version would be a better choice to push.  The understanding of fear and possibilities of why this has been done is somewhat clear but still not supported.  We will be losing momentum on decisions by corporate officers that have no clue what a change can do.

The D.E.Y. is a group with potential, no need to put restraints on what they have created because some nimrods do not pay attention and give opportunities to change.  Stress the word change, make sure you see why this is a method to growth.  We can make many more moves if allowed to change what others see as the norm.  Hip Hop as a whole is a culture built on lifestyles, which means a lifestyle that incorporates both English & Spanish should be allowed into everyone’s home to enjoy.  We have the best of both worlds, but we are stuck in a world of no real people! We as a whole are the future of this country, not because we are better but because we use the best of both our worlds to our benefit. Lets make a change!
