Jan. 18, 2008 - PRLog -- Drive Kids to be Fit, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating childhood obesity, has developed a free program for students and their parents.  Registration began on January 15, 2008 and ends on February 15, 2008.  Students from five San Fernando Valley schools will compete to win 20,000 in gym equipment for their schools.  Competing in the challenge means the children receive a free BMI Test, free fitness instruction and a free nutrition class for their parents.  The competition was devised to teach, motivate and encourage students through age-specific activities and incentives.  “Luckily, sponsors such as Brooks Shoes, have already stepped up to the plate by donating incentives for the kids,” says Max Mikhaiel, CEO of Drive Kids to be Fit.

Mikhaiel and his team have developed a number of fitness and nutrition programs.  However, this is their biggest project.  Most recently, the efforts of Drive Kids to be Fit were recognized with a proclamation from the City of Los Angeles, presented by the office of City Councilman Jack Weiss.  A number of corporations have expressed interest in sponsorship and actress Vanessa Williams recorded a PSA to get the word out.  In addition to the school activities, Drive Kids to be Fit is working on a fun run, a summer camp and participating in a documentary about a young child struggling with obesity.  Drive Kids to be Fit is a community partner in the National Institute of Health’s We Can!  Program.  For more information, visit: http://www.drivekidstobefit.org.
