Jan. 14, 2008 - PRLog -- My name is LaVail Duncan aka. (Black).  I am 28 years old. I was born in Akron, Ohio, where I’ve lived most of my life.  I moved to Fort Worth, Texas when I was 6years old and returned 5 years later.

   My father wanted me to be a musician so badly that I was 3 years old when he bought me a drum set.  When I was 6 he got me an electric guitar and by the time I was 7, I had my first full sized Casio keyboard.  I never really learned how to play these instruments, but I had fun making noise.  My mother sang in a gospel group with her 9 siblings.  The group was called the Evans Singers.  She has performed with Shirley Caesar, James Ingram, and Howard Hewitt.  Today she still sings in her church choir.  So I guess music is in my blood.

   I started making songs when I was in the second grade.  Whether it was rapping or singing, it has always been fun to put words together to show my creativity.  Some of my songs may seem angry, and some may seem happy or sad.  I may talk about the street life, problems in society, or sex, but what ever the case may be the songs come from the heart.

   The first time I performed in front of an audience was at my church.  I’ve done numerous local shows, but my biggest venue was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  I do it all from Gangster to Gospel from Hip-Hop to R&B.  I never limit my self to one style or one type of music.  I make it my business to be versatile.

   I’m  featured on three songs that have been on the radio.  Roll on ‘em  95.5 FM the Fish, What’s your name  88.1 WZIP, and Ohio 107.9 and 88.1.  What’s your name and Ohio are still in rotation.  In 2005 I independently released the album Black & Mild.  This album is special to me because I arranged, engineered, mixed, mastered and designed the layout myself.  Even though it was locally released it still created the buzz I was looking for.

   My influences come from mainly my Mom, my Dad and my Stepfather.  Other influences from James Brown, Michael Jackson, Jackie Wilson, and Sammy Davis Jr. to Run DMC, LL Cool J, 2Pac, Biggie and Jay Z.  It doesn’t stop.  I’m influenced everyday, everyday I hear something different.  It pushes me to be more creative and feeds my ambition to do something different.
