RUSSIAN “OLD NEW YEAR” TO BE CELEBRATED JANUARY 13 Olympic Figure Skating Gold Medalist Oksana Baiul Hosts the Event

Jan. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- NEW YORK CITY, NY – The ball won’t drop, nor will there be throngs of revelers in the streets, but Times Square will still ring out the old and bring in the new for many hundreds of Russian-Americans when the celebration of Russian “Old New Year” takes place Sunday, January 13, 2008 from10:00 p.m. through 4:30 a.m. in the AVA Lounge overlooking Times Square atop the Dream Hotel, 210 West 55th Street, in Manhattan.
Hosted by Olympic figure skating champion Oksana Baiul, “Old New Year” is the second largest event on the Russian calendar and has been celebrated for over 80 years – ever since the end of the revolution when Communist leaders moved the calendar by 13 days “to avoid any connection to religious holidays,” says Serge Chistov of Vodca Exclusiv, the event sponsor.  “This night is celebrated all over Russia and wherever Russians live.  It marks the 9th year Sashapromotions.com has produced the event and the 28th year it has been held in New York City.  Vodca Exclusiv is very excited and proud to be this year’s sponsor.”
Joining Baiul will be many sports and political figures and other Russian luminaries.  Among those confirmed are the Vice-Counsel of the Russian Federation in New York, 6-time Olympic and 12-time world hockey champion Aleksey Kasatonov, and Uyriy Vaulin, 2-time European and 1-time world champion boxer, to name a few.
DJ Max K, who is well-known in the Russian community, will entertain the dance crowd with  remixes of Russian hits and other European music dance selections. The media sponsor is RTVI, the second largest Russian speaking television channel in the U.S.
