Dec. 11, 2007 - PRLog -- New England String Ensemble (NESE) Music Director Federico Cortese conducts the Boston Pops December 14th, 15th and 16th at Symphony Hall, Boston.  Some of the special guests at these concerts include Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary fame, baritone Gideon Dabi, NESN’s Tina Cervaci and of course jolly old St. Nicholas will be stopping by.

Prior to joining NESE in its 2005-06 season, Federico Cortese served as Assistant Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa, from 1998-2002, and led the Boston Symphony several times on short notice in Symphony Hall and at Tanglewood, most notably performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Puccini's Madame Butterfly.  In addition to his extremely busy conducting schedule in venues around the globe, since 1999 he has been the Music Director of the Boston Youth Symphony.  As Music Director of New England String Ensemble he is known for creating some of the Greater Boston area’s most varied and colorful concert programs.

To benefit NESE’s educational programs Maestro Cortese is offering the Conductor’s Table at four of his Holiday Pops concerts at Symphony Hall; Friday, December 14th both the Kids Matinee at 4PM and the 8PM performance, Saturday, December 15th at 7:30PM and Sunday, December 16th at 7:30PM.  These tables seat a party of five, are valued at $590 and are otherwise sold out and are only available through the NESE auction.  The bidding starts at $300.  For more information or to place a bid call the office at 781-224-1117 or visit http://www.newenglandstringensemble.org

The musical passion that inspires each NESE performance is the driving force behind the community programs that are central to the orchestra's overall mission to “Engage, Educate and Inspire with Passionate Performances and Innovative Community Programs”. NESE supports supports music programs in the schools with “String Fever” at the elementary level, “Kids to Concerts” and “The Genius of Youth” for middle-schoolers and “The New England Musical Heritage Initiative” at the high school level.  To motivate and inspire advance music students NESE holds annual Flute and String Competitions with winners receiving scholarships and performance opportunities.  The winner of the 12th annual string competition will perform with the orchestra in “Winter Contrast” on February 8th and 9th.
