Nov. 30, 2007 - PRLog -- Canadian Terry Fallis’ novel, The Best Laid Plans, has recently received the coveted Publisher’s Choice designation from iUniverse. Publisher’s Choice titles written by Canadian authors are displayed in the author’s local Chapters Indigo bookstore for a minimum of eight weeks. Titles written by American authors are displayed in the author’s local Barnes & Noble store for the same amount of time.

To become eligible for Publisher’s Choice, authors must first publish their books through the iUniverse Premier Pro Publishing Package. From there, titles that receive the Editor's Choice designation for editorial quality and meet key cover design standards receive the prestigious Publisher’s Choice designation.

“I was thrilled when my novel earned the Editor’s Choice designation,” said Fallis. “This is my first novel and after writing in solitude for so long, my own sense of perspective on the book, when the manuscript was finally done, was uncertain at best.”

With no initial expectations of success, Fallis’ goal from the outset of publishing with iUniverse was to secure the Publisher’s Choice designation so that his novel could make it into at least one Chapters-Indigo bookstore. “I really like the cover design that clinched the Publisher’s Choice designation,” said Fallis, “and am very pleased that The Best Laid Plans will be on display in at least one store of Canada’s major book retailer.”

Fallis said, “Early sales have been very strong relative to my expectations.”

Publisher’s Choice gives authors the chance to discover if they have what it takes to succeed in the publishing marketplace by providing the support needed to develop a customized, professional marketing plan. This support includes marketing tips and ideas, a sample marketing plan, a title information sheet template, and the opportunity to communicate one-on-one with an iUniverse marketing associate.

After authors develop their marketing plans and title information sheets, iUniverse submits these documents to a national buyer at Chapters Indigo or Barnes & Noble. The buyer then determines where the books will be stocked and the number of books to purchase for the eight-week stocking period.

“iUniverse is the only supported self-publishing company that makes real investments in its most promising titles,” said Susan Driscoll, iUniverse president and CEO. “The Publisher’s Choice designation is just one example of our dedication to identifying, supporting and celebrating books that have the potential for greater commercial success.”
