Original Pancake House Announces Gluten-Free Pancakes

The Original Pancake House restaurant, with two locations in Greenwood Village, is announcing the addition of gluten-free pancakes to its menu. Gluten-Sensitive, Celiac Disease Sufferers No Longer Left Out

Nov. 12, 2007 - PRLog -- The Original Pancake House restaurant, with two locations in Greenwood Village, is announcing the addition of gluten-free pancakes to its menu. Those who suffer from gluten allergies or Celiac Disease, a digestive disease that is exacerbated by products like bread and pasta containing gluten, have missed out on time-honored treats such as pancakes – that is until now.

Nationwide statistics underscore the need for businesses to recognize the demand for gluten-free and celiac-friendly products.  According to the University of Chicago’s Celiac Disease Center more than 3 million people in our country are living with celiac disease – 97% of those are undiagnosed.

“At least once a week, for about a year, we received requests from pancake lovers who can’t eat products with gluten,” said Sara Hueneke, owner and great niece of The Original Pancake House founder, Erma Hueneke. “We wanted to give these folks a way to enjoy our featured menu item. It was a simple step, but something that in the long-run serves a significant number of people in our community.”

With friends who suffer from Celiac Disease, Hueneke sees the addition of gluten-free pancakes as a way to include those whose dietary limitations don’t allow them to enjoy foods that are a mainstream of most American diets.

“When we first considered adding gluten-free pancakes to our menu, we figured we would serve a few orders a month. At this point, we’re serving an average of 200 orders per month, per restaurant,” Hueneke explains, adding that she is ecstatic about the reception with which customers have given this new menu item.

To taste the gluten-free pancakes, or any of the other delectable items on the Original Pancake House menu, visit the Greenwood Village locations of the Original Pancake House: 8000 E. Belleview Avenue or 5900 S. University Blvd. The Original Pancake House is open every day of the week from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
