A fascinating device made more than a hundred years ago by Prince Albert's opticians is coming up for sale at auction next week.

Nov. 9, 2007 - PRLog -- A barometer made by the company trusted as Prince Albert’s instrument maker is coming up for sale at auction.

The Victorian mahogany marine stick barometer was made by Chadburn of Liverpool sometime between 1837 and 1875.

It is being sold at a clock and antique barometers auction in Birmingham, UK, next week.

The sale is being put on by 131 year old auctioneer Fellows & Sons on Tuesday 13th November 2007: http://www.fellows.co.uk.

Managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: “There are records of the Chadburn brothers working in both Liverpool and Sheffield during this time.

“They were known as notable makers and retailers of instruments, some of which were purchased from London and Continental makers.

“And they are known to have supplied instruments to Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert before his death in 1861.”

The barometer is lot 9 in the 118 item sale.

It has a brass suspension loop and arched glazed ivory venier scale. This is marked Chadburn Optician to HRH Prince Albert, Liverpool.

The trunk contains a rectangular mercury thermometer. Fellows’ experts have valued the barometer at £1,800 to £2,500.

This device and the antique clocks in the sale will be available to people across the globe.

Fellows & Sons broadcasts a live audio feed of every sale and encourages internet bids at the website.

All items can be seen in the online catalogue at http://www.fellows.co.uk/ShowAuction.asp?sAuctionNumber=911.
