Movies That Put the Audience to Sleep Make It to Top Ten

The shift away from Hollywood movies to flms that reinvigorate body and soul has begun--even if you can't remember a thing you watched.

Nov. 6, 2007 - PRLog -- Most movies that reach the top ten at the box office keep the audience awake all the way through and often even entertain them. At the other end of the spectrum, independent producer Sondra Lowell makes movies with the purpose of putting people to sleep, and she usually succeeds.

“I never thought a movie of mine would make the top ten of 2007,” admitted the petite yet tough-minded CEO of Film Sleepy Inc and inventor of the film sleepy genre. Her first feature, WebcamMurder.com, follows the uneventful lives of webcammers who do nothing in front of webcams day in and day out, and she is surprised by the sudden attention. “I thought it would take at least five years till moviegoers appreciated the deep relaxation and renewal that my movies bring to their stressed-out lives.”

To help close the gap between prevailing expectations of movies and her health conscious approach, Sondra wrote a manual to educate both viewers and filmmakers wanting to reach the next level,  the 49 cent How to Make a Movie That Puts the Audience to Sleep: A Home Study Course.

Still, it is not at the box office that Film Sleepy shot straight to the top but by being named the Fourth Most Slacker Friendly Home Based Business of 2007, as determined by StartupNation, a company that keeps close watch over such developments.

Wrote StartupNation in their announcement of Film Sleepy’s win, “For those of us with entrepreneurial insomnia, there might be something here.”

Like many inventors, Sondra did not start out with the vision she ended up foisting upon the world.”For several years I was a tap dancing newscaster on KABC radio in Los Angeles, singing and hoofing the news so listeners could hum along.

“When tap dancing news went the way of singing through bullhorns, I decided to write screenplays and sell them to the studios. I couldn’t believe it when the teachers at UCLA Extension said my stories meandered and did not raise the stakes to a boffo socko climax. It was only after several semesters of trying to fit in that I realized that Hollywood was still writing for the pre-Internet age, and I needed to produce my own movies and show the moguls  the way.”

The result was WebcamMurder.com, which the Los Angeles Times called "the most boring talkie ever made," and the upcoming Sublime Crime: A Subliminal Mystery, expected to put the audience to sleep even faster, being entirely subliminal.

“Frankly, I cannot think of three companies more slacker friendly than mine,” said Sondra, “and I feel we should have made Number One. However, this gives me the impetus to strive even harder to bring an awareness of global sleepiness to the public. Eventually, I foresee community bans on exciting, stress-inducing movies, much like the ban on trans-fats, to save people from their own compulsions.

“After being announced as the Fourth Most Slacker Friendly Home Based Company of 2007, my downloadable manual, How to Make a Movie That Puts the Audience to Sleep, shot from number 1,886,946 on Amazon, to the 132,125th top seller in books. By 2010, I expect to be the Number One Most Slacker Friendly Company, with film sleepies in theaters everywhere, and have at least the 8,322nd top selling book.”
