Nov. 4, 2007 - PRLog -- Philadelphia, PA - PEACEFUL REBELLION: FIGHTING FOR THE ARTS kicks-off a partnership for peace among Rebel City Music and The Peace and Love Movement in the form of a series of art, music and social awareness events highlighting progressive urban artists on Sunday, November 11, 2007, 9:00 p.m., at Warm Daddy’s, 1401 Columbus Boulevard.

This visible and viable source of self-expression and anti-violence activism begins with a poetry slam fest sponsored by Rockport with featured co-host Coltrane from MTV’s “Overdrive”.  Ten poets will compete for $500 while Rebel City Music’s Reva Cheri joins Coltrane to host an evening of art expressions showcasing the visual art of Tanen Andre, musical stylings of Rebel City Music artist Sonji, and the phenomenal spoken word of Atlanta’s Queen Sheba and Philly’s Master Griot Artists Amun Miraaj and Quiet Rage.

The slam will be judged by poet/entrepreneur K.D. Morris (PhyreNeyce), poet Nish Pugh (former host of Word4Word), poet Crucial (host of October Gallery’s Panoramic Poetry), poet Aziza (host of First Fridays @Jose Sebourne), and Jamal C. Mack (host of Speak To Me).

Rockport, a member of the Adidas Group, also brings opportunity to Philadelphia promoters as Rockport and MTV seek the hottest poetry and performance art venues to sponsor for its late spring/early summer 2008 promotional season.  Rockport brings free shoes and a check of $2,000 or more to the winning venue in each city.  November 11, 2007 is the opportunity for Philadelphia audiences to get free Rockport shoes and Philly promoters to network with representatives from Rockport and MTV.

The Arts Garage, located in Brewertown at 1533-35 Ridge Avenue, will host the Sponsor Mixer and After Party with Djs Johnny Dangerous and Rich Medina.  Select promoters will have the opportunity to submit proposals and meet one-on-one with Rockport representatives.  Promoters can contact Carrie T. Coley at 336.624.1985 and carrieytcoley@gmail.com for guidelines to be considered for Rockport sponsorship.

When asked why is this partnership of real of value, the accomplished Rochelle Lampkin, Founder of the Peace and Love Movement and Urb Marketing and Girlfriends at Sherman Mills, answered “Viable alternatives to the violent choices our youth are making need to be offered and promoted. The union of Rebel City Music and the Arts Community and encouraging our youth and individuals to use artistic expression and creation to channel their energy could replace the violence that continues to plague our city."

One of the first entities to respond to the call for promoters, Jacqueline Taylor-Adams, CMO for The Master Griot ProjectTM, shares, “Art is the storyteller of our culture.  In this day of such negative imaging of Blacks and women in art and media, it is important to bring to the forefront  the spoken word community who so commonly use words that help create healthy mindsets and positive images.  What better way to show peace and love.”

Carrie T. Coley, a Rebel City Music family member and intern for Peace and Love, is the catalyst for this partnership for peace and responsible person for availing this great opportunity to Philadelphia’s art and entertainment community.
