Nov. 2, 2007 - PRLog -- NATBO has taken a number of steps to help independent tax business owners compete on a level playing field with the large national firms. For the first time, NATBO will have a full-time Executive Director to push forward the organization’s mission of membership education and tax issue advocacy.

Catherine A. Mueller, EA, CTP, ATP, ATC, has been appointed as Executive Director of the National Alliance of Tax Business Owners (NATBO).  She also serves as a Director of NATBO, which is a 501(c) 6 non-profit organization.  Previously she was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Peoples Income Tax, Inc.   Cathy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Accounting (including Advanced Corporate Taxation).   Cathy has extensive experience in the tax preparation industry:
•   an Enrolled Agent, licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS.
•   has also held Series 7 and 66 securities licenses.
•   a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals and National Association of Accountants.
•   past member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents, where she served as chair of the VSEA Education Committee.
•   earned designations of Chartered Tax Professional, from the Income Tax School, as well as Accredited Tax Preparer and Accredited Tax Advisor from the Accrediting Council for Accounting & Taxation, Inc.
•   She has also completed the advanced education in taxpayer representation to become a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute.

Cathy Mueller understands that “tax business owners face issues and challenges unique to their positions as owners.  NATBO is the only national organization exclusively for tax business owners. As such, NATBO offers its members the benefits of shared knowledge and experiences to help grow their tax businesses.  I am excited to accept this opportunity and look forward to developing new programs and resources to benefit our members.”

NATBO has recently started a membership drive to give more independent tax business owners a seat at the table. NATBO has reduced its annual membership fee from $199/year to $99 year for new members and $79/year for renewal and added a number of new affinity partners. NATBO has launched a new website: http://www.NATBO.net which will provide better educational information and industry updates to its members.
