Sept. 30, 2007 - PRLog -- A Global Healthcare Public Foundation, October 1, 2007, Maryland, USA –announces the opening of its first fully operating African office in Nairobi, Kenya.

In the last five years, the Foundation has had operations in West Africa and Central Africa providing services to over 40 different communities and serving over 50,000 men, women and children each year. With our Clinical and Non-clinical Programs the Foundation has successfully positioned itself as a grassroots organization working with government and rural community NGOs and CBOs to develop and support local initiatives.

The opening of our Kenya office finally allows us to take some of our best practices from West Africa in to East Africa and to contribute positively in the healthcare services and public health of its people” states Prof. K. Songwe, Chairman /President. This office will handle activities in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda as well as expansions into Tanzania and Botswana.

The Foundation has already secured a contract with CDC-Uganda, Viral Research Institute (CDC/UVRI) at Entebbe to provide Technical Assistance in preparing its laboratories for the College of American Pathology (CAP) laboratory Accreditation. Similar discussions are currently ongoing in the region with other National Reference Laboratories. The accreditation of these laboratories will instantly improve the quality of patient care that would be provided, especially in diagnostic labs. While accreditation has been used in Europe and the US for a while, it is still a relatively new concept in most of Africa were only very few labs have been accredited.

In Nairobi, from October 1 to October 7 the Foundation will partner with Kianda Development Network Association (K.D.N.A) at the International Trade Fair, during which it will distribute condoms, brochures and pamphlets on HIV. The Foundation will soon be providing hot meals to the children of the Kibera slums. “These children are many, so many and this program will really help them” says Mr. Job Ogolla Field Coordinator of K.D.N.A, a grassroots organization working with children in the Kibera slums.
