Sept. 24, 2007 - PRLog -- Sheldon Manufacturing Inc. Rolls Out the New SHEL LAB High Heat Decontamination CO2 Incubator

The SHEL LAB family of CO2 Incubators has just expanded again to include the model 3552.  This is the first CO2 Incubator to incorporate 180C, high heat cycle for automatic decontamination that doesn’t require removing the Infrared CO2 Sensor.

CO2 Incubator Features-
The SHEL LAB Model 3552 incorporates a patent-pending design that keeps the delicate IR sensor protected from contamination during normal operation, and hot temperatures during the high heat decontamination cycle.  The full brochure can be downloaded at http://www.shellab.com/brochures/ShelLab-CO2Incubator.pdf

During the decon cycle, the infrared CO2 sensor is protected by the copper isolation chamber, which is mounted outside of the CO2 Incubator chamber.  A high efficiency HEPA filter (99.7 % at 0.3microns) filters all air as it is circulated through the isolation chamber.  The use of copper in the design of the isolation chamber deters bacterial growth.  This design combines HEPA Filtration, to clean the chamber air, with the natural anti-bacterial properties of copper oxide to address contamination, providing a superior incubation environment.

Effective Decontamination-
Activation of the decontamination cycle requires a two-step process to ensure that the 180C program is not started accidentally.  Once the decontamination cycle begins, the temperature of the chamber rises to 180C, stabilizes for 60 minutes, and then cools back down to room temperature leaving the CO2 Incubator chamber decontaminated.

During the high heat phase, airflow is prevented from entering the copper isolation chamber.  This protects the IR sensor from high temperatures.  The user never has to remove or handle the IR sensor to perform the decontamination cycle.  “The driving concepts behind this CO2 Incubator design were that the decon cycle had to meet international standards for sterilization, and that it wouldn’t be necessary to remove the IR sensor.  Our concern was that accidentally dropping the sensor or having it damaged during storage and handling was a risk that our customer would just as soon avoid,” said Dan Sheldon, President of Sheldon Manufacturing Inc.

About the SHEL LAB CO2 Incubator
The SHEL LAB High Heat Decontamination CO2 Incubators employ 100% stainless steel chambers and shelving, and a removable inner door gasket that can be autoclaved.  The air-jacketed insulation delivers tight uniformity and makes the chamber easy to reposition and install. The stainless steel interior is designed with fully coved corners making decontamination and cleaning convenient.  The CO2 sample port and data logger connections are located on the front control panel for quick setup and easy access.  Learn More at http://www.shellab.com/store
