Sept. 22, 2007 - PRLog -- After last year’s exciting, inaugural festival, The Hackensack Upper Main Alliance and the City of Hackensack are delighted to announce the Second Annual Hackensack Street Festival!

The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2007—rain or shine! The festival will be held on Main Street between Atlantic and Passaic Street. Main Street will be closed to traffic during the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Last year’s event drew over 15,000 attendees, bringing family fun and civic pride back to the heart of Downtown Hackensack. “We’re building on the incredible success of last year’s street fair. The idea of this event is to invite all of Bergen County to get re-acquainted with the improved Hackensack Business District.” Stated Jerry Lombardo, executive director of The Upper Main Alliance

This year’s event promises two stages full of entertainment all day long. Acts include DJ Kenny Fiesta and DJ Edson, KNS Showtime, Lori Michaels Me & the Girls, and Ashford & Simpson, who will take the main stage located at the corner of Main and Passaic Street at 4pm.

Ashford & Simpson are known as both songwriters (“Aint’ Nothing Like the Real Thing,” “You’re All I Need to Get By”) and as recording artists (“Found a Cure,” “Love Don’t Make It Right”). Edward Decker, Vice Chairman of The Upper Main Alliance said, Ashford and Simpson performing on Main Street, Hackensack is an event that few could have forseen in years past.. It’s always been my goal as Marketing Director to bring entertainment of the highest caliber to any event the Upper Main Alliance gets behind. There is no doubt that Ashford and Simpson are one of the most prolific creative, and exciting musical couples in the business. Don’t miss this show!”

Additional events and acts will take place on a second stage located at the corner of Atlantic and Main Street. Second stage entertainment includes Ray Rodriguez y Swing Sabroso, A Costume Character Review and Soul Finger.

The Johnson Public Library on the corner on Camden and Main Street will sponsor a full day of entertainment and activities starting with Storybook Characters, Face Painting, Pre-school Story time and a puppet show entitled Wriggles the Wishing Pig, Little Red Hen. There will be demonstrations by the Bergen County Canine Unit. A focus on dance with the education of Salsa including some dance lessons, The Center of Modern Dance Education will present Middle Eastern and African Dance demonstrations for all to partake in. In addition, The Shotokan Karate Academy will also present a free demonstration.

Over 250 vendors will participate in the street fair, which will also feature many attractions for children, such as clowns, face-painters, rides, and a petting zoo. The large international food selection will mirror Hackensack’s great vibrancy and diversity.

Jerome Some, Chairman of the Public Relations committee, enthusiastically said, “It is indeed rewarding to be a part of the Directors staff which represents The Upper Main Alliance. It is their energy that spurs the rest of us to fulfill an obligation to restore the bright future that the Hackensack Business District had in the past. In doing this event, the alliance wants to generate a fun family festival which will elevate the image of Hackensack’s Downtown Business District.”

Shuttle busses will be available to and from the event. Pick up locations will be from Johnson Park, Foschini Park and Justice Center Parking Lots.
