Sept. 14, 2007 - PRLog -- So you have decided to have wood flooring installed ( http://www.abflooringservices.com/hardwood-floor-installation.html ). What a good choice this is for many reasons. There are just a few things you should know if you are going to be overseeing the installation of your new floor. To install your new flooring, the base molding and the shoe molding has to be removed. This will be reinstalled after the floor is put down. So don’t panic if you see a worker with a crowbar attacking your molding.

The base molding and shoe molding is used to finish the look of the floor and wall. When you are having a new floor put down, you would be wise to use the old moldings. Don’t try to change from one kind to another because you will be making adjustments on the whole thing. If you use a different kind it may not cover up the edges of the flooring as the previous molding did.

Removing the shoe molding ( http://www.abflooringservices.com/removing-base-molding.html ) from the base molding must be done carefully so as not to split the shoe molding. Doing a little at a time will keep you from splitting it and having to buy new when there was nothing wrong with the molding you were taking off.

The base molding must be removed carefully so as not to damage them or the wall. Using a wood block behind the pry bar will keep the wall from being damaged and causing more work to have done. Prying only at the studs in the wall will be the best way to remove the molding. This is best done by using the thin side of a pry bar and placing it between the baseboard and the wall and prying outward. This will release the molding from the wall. Placing wood wedges behind the molding will hold it out while you are pulling the rest of it loose.

If this is done properly you will be able to save your crown molding and shoe molding so you can use it again and save on this expense. If you hire someone to install hardwood floor for you, and they do not want to remove this molding, call someone else to do this. It is a necessity for your flooring to look right and be done perfectly so as to have the professional look that you want your floors to have.

Wood floors are beautiful and much easier to take care of than carpet. Everyone likes carpet for the warmth and the insulating element. However you can achieve this by simply taking a few steps to make your wood floors just as warm and insulated as carpet. Guess what the next step is? Though this is not a required step it is a good idea to tack down building paper to reduce noise and act as a vapor barrier.

It is important that you have this type of work done by someone who is knowledgeable in this area so that it is done properly. If they are not a professional floor person, make sure it is someone who knows the trade.
