Come for the Cause; Stay for the Music: A Benefit for the People of Darfur

Louisville Women Band Together To Help the Women & Children of Darfur
By: Darfur at Dusk

Aug. 23, 2007 - PRLog -- Louisville, KY – August 24, 2007 – On September 28, 2007 you can improve the life of someone suffering in Darfur.  A local group of passionate women have heeded the cry for help from Darfur and have responded by creating a music filled evening aptly named “Darfur at Dusk.”

This benefit concert for the people of Darfur will take place at the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center from 6pm – 11pm on September 28th. Tickets are $25 for General Admission, $15 for students and can be purchased at the door or by visiting www.darfuratdusk.org. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Refugee Committee International, which provides life-saving services to 400,000 people in the rural Nyala-Gareida and Nyala-Tulus corridors of South Darfur, with a significant portion of their aid earmarked for women and children.

Darfur at Dusk’s musical lineup will please concertgoers with a wide variety of artists and styles.  Confirmed artists thus far include Louisville’s very own Love Jones, Johnny Berry and Minnow.  The evening will be rounded out by outstanding food and beverage items available for purchase from Ramsi’s On the World Café.

The Darfur at Dusk initiative was the result of Louisville resident Lindsey Ronay’s desire to do more for Darfur.  Comments Ronay, “I am ashamed to say that at first I didn’t want to know what was going on in Darfur because I didn’t want to be made to feel powerless.  Then I heard a story on NPR about what a mother and her children had to endure.  Out of four, only one remained to tell the story.  After I heard the radio interview, I couldn’t sleep thinking about man’s inhumanity to his fellow man.  My brain raced, searching for some way to be of help.”

Ronay continued, “It dawned on me that among my friends and business associates, there is an abundance of skill, talent, and energy to put together an event that might actually be able to make a difference.  No, most of us can’t pick up and go there, but we can at the very least try to raise awareness and funds by taking part in Darfur at Dusk.  Those I have approached have been eager to contribute.  It is almost as if people are as relieved as I am to be able to help this cause.”

Although most people cannot go to the refugee camps to provide aid, a show of support through events like Darfur at Dusk will make a significant difference in the lives of the people who suffer from the crisis in Darfur.

$25 can buy 3 donkey plows for 3 displaced families.
$50 can buy 3 blankets for a displaced family.
$100 can buy a treadle pump for a kitchen garden.

Giving just a little can provide so much.
