Aug. 5, 2007 - PRLog -- As more of the once ubiquitous highway billboards are banned, advertisers are replacing lost space with ads on municipal buses, taxi cabs and sidewalk kiosks.  SmartAVI can deliver high definition video signals from a back office to HDTVs up to 1,000 feet away.  Shopping malls can be equipped with a SmartAVI video server that controls over 50 HDTVs, each running dozens of advertisements from a single Windows desktop computer.

Any clerk capable of scanning bar codes at a cash register can operate the SmartAVI’s easy-to-use menu system.  Advertisements can be setup to run in continuous loops on any or all of the HDTVs.  Continuous loops can be edited to include a variety of advertisements.  Advertisements can be simple photos of a product or scrolling ticker-tapes or wide-screen movie trailers, with or without sound.  Advertising agencies servicing multiple shopping malls, retail stores and other venues can control SmartAVI servers from a remote location by using an Internet connection.  Ads can be added, deleted, replaced or re-organized without having to make a trip to the mall or replacing bulky billboards or posters.

“The beauty of the ‘Smart Billboard’ is that ad agencies can now reduce their operational costs while, at the same time, attracting more advertisers to the same space during the same day,” commented Bill Berdux, marketing contact for Applica, Inc., the company that developed SmartAVI.  He added that, “a poster or billboard does not have to be manually replaced and ads for multiple clients can be displayed on the same HDTV as 30 second spots or 5 minute documentaries.  Advertisers can select the days of the week and times of the day to advertise.  A donut brand may run every 5 minutes between 6:00am and 10:00am and be replaced by a hamburger ad from 11:00am to 2:00pm.  Heinz can target fast food customers with spots about condiments as customers wait for their orders or insurance companies can reach customers waiting for their cars to be serviced at a dealership or a Quick Lube store.”
