Aug. 3, 2007 - PRLog -- In 1983, Abbey Meyers made a decision to fight instead of just giving up.  That fight led her to found the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), a nonprofit group that fights for advancements in treatment of all orphan diseases.  Recently, Ms. Meyers announced that after nearly 25 years, she is retiring from her position as NORD’s president.

In the latest episode of Fighting Back, the podcast that tells inspirational stories of people fighting serious or incurable diseases, Ms. Meyers discusses her career as the leader of NORD, how she plans to continue her fight, and where she thinks the organization is going in the next 10 years.

Fighting Back is produced for Fight SMA and its program, FighterMom.  Fight SMA is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a treatment or cure for spinal muscular atrophy, the leading genetic killer of children under two.  FighterMom is a program designed to help any mother who has become a disease advocate, fighting against a serious disease affecting her child.

“Abbey Meyers is an amazing woman, and we thank her for the work she’s done for the orphan disease community,” said Martha Slay, president of Fight SMA.  “We’re honored she agreed to be interviewed on Fighting Back.”
