Aug. 1, 2007 - PRLog -- Originating in the late 17th century, chinoiserie was born of the European fascination for all things oriental. As European explorers returned from eastern adventures they brought with them resplendent goods decorated with intriguing and romantic motifs, captivating the imagination of Europe’s upper classes.

It didn’t take long for European craftsmen to interpret the popular Chinese styles in the design of interiors, furniture, pottery, textiles and gardens.  The exotic artistry inspired a lively vogue for far eastern fashions, with outstanding chinoiserie interiors built for the epoch’s most eminent figures, including Louis XIV at Versailles.

An opulent and glamorous art form, the style features lavish gilding and lacquering, intricate fretwork and is often characterised by pagoda roofs and bamboo framing.

Temple Trading offers a wide range of accessories and furniture pieces, all elaborately decorated in this timeless style. Perfect to rejuvenate any room in need of that certain something, their collections include a beautiful selection of intricate patterns and detail. The Red & Black Bird collection is inspired by the interiors of the state rooms in the Chinese palace at Oranienbaum which was built in 1760s on the gulf of Finland. The long tailed birds inhabit a dreamy, moonlit world of giant flowers and delicate trees.

Depicting harmony and balance, the Black and Ivory range is in the neo classic manner. The design has evolved from inspiration drawn from pieces of original Victorian jewellery. The design is finely executed by hand onto textured crackled effect surfaces suggesting the ageing tones of heritage pieces, thus creating elegant and extraordinary pieces nothing less than family heirlooms.

The glamorous grapevine design, regal Rajasthani range and floral Black & Gold Scroll pattern all offer colourful alternatives. Completing Temple Trading’s chinoiserie offering are an elegant Gold Embossed collection, a fashionable Antique Finish range, a fabulous assortment of playfully designed boxes and tins, and an array of resplendent oriental mirrors.

Within each collection, a range of mirrors, tables, candle lites, lamps, corner racks, consoles, stands, accessories and chairs can be chosen from.
