June 30, 2007 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, D.C. (JULY 2007) – Blue Dog Productions and NVCC-TV are proud to announce that producer Steven Fischer has won the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award for his documentary Draw the Line: An Animator’s Showcase.

In a statement released in July, Fischer wrote: “Draw the Line is a study of professional animation. It is meant to inspire young artists just starting out. The subjects were each posed two central questions. The first was, do you need to live in a large market like New York or Los Angeles to “make it” as a professional animator? The second had to do with the basic values of drawing fundamentals. Essentially, I wanted to examine how geography affects an artist’s work, and secondly, emphasize to my target audience that even if you animate using a computer you still need to know how to draw. You must study from life and have a firm understanding of motion, performance, and character.”

Subsidized by Northern Virginia Community College, the show features mid-Atlantic animators Phil Cook, Sally Bensusan, Sharvonique Fortune, Kristin Harris, and Miguel De Angel. Among its accolades, Draw the Line won a Gold Remi Award at the 40th Annual WorldFest International Film Festival in Houston, Texas in April and a national Telly Award in May.

Fischer began his professional career at age 17 with the first publication of his notable Steve & Bluey cartoons. By age 19, Fischer was living in London, England mentoring with animation legend Steve Melendez (The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe). Since those early years, Fischer, now 35, has illustrated, animated or directed the animation for countless TV programs, ads, and promotion videos. He is said to be the first to animate for television the Boston Red Sox’s green monster mascot. Other cartoon creations include those for Rocky Run Tap & Grill, Blue Dot Heating & Plumbing, Dr. Cool, Horizon Services, Waterman Joe Café, University of Maryland, and DuPont. He has authored two cartoon books, and his professional biography can be referenced in Marquis Who’s Who in Entertainment.

Fischer’s relationship with the Melendez family continues today.  The company famed for producing the Charlie Brown films is now making use of Fischer’s live action skills in Los Angeles and London to help document and promote their latest animated series, a children’s educational series. This past May, Freedom Dance, an animated documentary Fischer released with animator Craig Herron premiered at the Maryland Film Festival.

The CINE Golden Eagle awards are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in filmmaking.
