Flaws In Detecting Child Abuse!

Grandparents having legal right of contact with their grandchildren can be a very effective force in detecting child abuse a lot earlier. Other agencies can only know after the abuse and the child is badly damaged.

Flaws in detecting child abuse! Prevention is better than cure.

The NSPCC full stop programme on child abuse has a flaw that we at Grandparents Apart Self Help Group Scotland have been pointing out, but to no avail. The flaw! Grandparents/grandchildren having no legal access between them prevents early detection of child abuse.

If the ‘full stop’ to child abuse programme is to be fully effective then all avenues of protecting children should be highlighted not just the area of NSPCCs speciality. It is an awful shame that children are suffering because of this flaw in their very worthwhile programme. But!  NSPCCs pride in ignoring an area it cannot deal with is worsening the detection of abuse. It would be much more effective for grandparents to spot and report child abuse much sooner Think about it? Earlier detection could save a lot more children. Prevention is always better than cure.

In their recent adverts the NSPCC admit they cannot cope with the rise in child abuse cases and it would go a long way in helping if they backed grandparents seeking the legal right to have contact with their grandchildren. ‘The Charter for Grandchildren’ if made legal could help prevent children living in 160,000 danger drug and alcohol homes from abuse and plug the gap and doing what their programme suggests a ‘full stop to child abuse’ easing the suffering of children.

[‘The Charter for Grandchildren’ was recently created by our group and the Scottish Executive but is advisory only and we are actively seeking for it to be upgraded for our grandchildren to have the legal right to our protection.  At the moment grandparents are legally shut out and excluded by law from protecting their own grandchildren in this way.] ‘The Charter for Grandchildren’ can be seen on http://www.grandparenrsapart.co.uk
