Teaching & Projects Abroad, based in West Sussex, specialises in offering gap year students a diverse range of projects and destinations throughout Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

The teaching projects on offer allow volunteers the opportunity to gain work experience in primary, secondary and some special schools.  There is a genuine need for children to learn conversational English in developing countries and volunteers can use their skills to help children from 5 to 17 years old.  Teaching placements vary even within the same country, but volunteers will usually be in lessons for about 18 hours a week.  Schools are also keen to use volunteers other skills for extra-curricular activities like music, sport or art.

Head of Recruitment Ian Birbeck said, “Last year, Teaching & Projects Abroad organised more than 2,300 voluntary placements in less developed countries, channelling more than £2 million into host economies. This year, we are advising students to book early to avoid disappointment.”

“Our main objective at Teaching & Projects Abroad is to match the skills, experience and willingness of young British people to the needs, requirements and abilities of communities in developing countries.”

As well as student Gap Year placements, Teaching & Projects Abroad also offers career breaks and graduate placements to the public.

Set up in 1992, Teaching & Projects Abroad, employing 200 trained staff overseas in destinations, offers 80 different placements in areas such as sport, medicine, teaching, conservation, journalism, business and community development.

UK gap year students could be working on overseas voluntary projects including journalism in Senegal, football coaching in Ghana, teaching in Argentina or helping the conservation in Mexico.

Students planning their 2007 Gap Year projects are being urged to book now in order to gain their preferred project and destination.  To book your Gap Year placement contact Teaching & Projects Aboard now on 01903 708300 or visit http://www.projects-abroad.co.uk/.  There are also numerous country related websites such as http://www.volunteer-teaching-bolivia.org/
