June 11, 2007 - PRLog -- An April 10th story in Panama’s La Prensa newspaper was taken as fact, but today’s check with Copa Airlines proved different. Such a flight probably will happen,” according to an un-named airline representative, “ but nothing yet is firm.” The weekly flight was rumoured to originate in Miami, to feature a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and to be in place for next tourist season.

So for the moment, Tocumen airport in Panama City (PTY) remains the principle entry point for thousands of international visitors and residential tourism to Boquete, in western Panamá.

Visitors come to Boquete, to retire and relax; others to set up a second residence. It’s a pleasant place. Cool too. At 1,200 mt. (3,600 ft.) altitude, the average daytime temperature throughout the year maintains an average 24 Celsius (75 Fahrenheit).

There are lots of things to do. White-water rafting , Boquete Tree Trek canopy tours, flower tours, coffee tours, bike riding, mountain and trail hiking, horse-back riding, bird and butterfly expeditions. The warm waters of the Pacific are down the mountain, and just one hour away.

Long before the growing influx of retirees began, Cabañas B&B Momentum (http://www.momentum-panama.com) owner, Canadian Ken Neal, arrived from Vancouver. “I’m into my 11th year here, and I love it,” said Ken. “Every morning when I look out my window, there is only greenery and nature to greet me.” He added, “And the peak of Volcan Baru, Panama’s highest point.

“Sure is different from where I used to live. No traffic problems here, in fact there is not a car in sight.” Our transportation here is the “Free wireless internet.”

Cabañas (cabins) B&B Momentum is the first lodging place-to-stay along the highway from David to Boquete. “When I bought this place in 1999, it was covered with nothing but tall grass and rocks, plenty of them” he explained. “We ran in the water, the underground electricity, cleared the rocks away, and encouraged the natural grass and trees, already in place, to grow.”

Today Momentum Boquete includes five luxurious rental cabins and bed and breakfast accommodation. All this spread out over a wide, green 15,000 sq. mt. (3.7 acre) plateau of greenery, with splashes of colourful flowers and garden patches scattered here and there. A very large heated swimming pool is also on-site, in addition to a small gym, a volleyball court, and a surfaced walking/running trail that encircles the entire property, and at one point runs along the edge of the rushing Rio Cochea.

Cheap or expensive? Our rates vary according to the time of the year and the length of the stay. High season generally runs from mid-November to mid April… the rest is ‘bargain accommodation for a quality stay.’ More information and photos are available at http://www.momentum-panama.com.
