Jan. 5, 2007 - PRLog -- Automated Learning Corporation® (ALC) of Kanata, Canada announced today availability of a new electronics-training course in electrostatic discharge (ESD) control. ALC has targeted the course to electronics manufacturing facilities that require ESD controls for ultra-sensitive components in the ESD Class 0 range. “ESD: Class 0” is the first training course on the topic to be released in this computer based training (CBT) eLearning format.

Are You “ESD Class 0 Ready”? – Many are not

The requirements of high-performance miniaturized products with ever-smaller device design geometries are driving development of electronic components that are extremely sensitive to static discharge damage. This has created concern for many manufacturers that are, or will be, required to deal with this new generation of Class Zero ESD sensitive components. Experience has shown that introducing Class Zero components in manufacturing can result in catastrophic yield-loss problems unless appropriate advanced ESD prevention methods are used.

According to ESD experts, Dangelmayer Associates, many electronics-manufacturing professionals might not fully appreciate the mechanisms of static discharge damage to electronic components, especially in the ultra-sensitive Class Zero range. In fact ESD Class 0 requires a basic shift in thinking about control methods, “it is no longer business as usual”. This new course is designed to address this requirement.

“ESD: Class 0” provides essential knowledge to help you develop an effective Class 0 ESD control program management system. The course includes coverage of:

- Trends that are rapidly driving Class Zero requirements into your production process
- Conventional ESD prevention techniques that don’t work as well as you might think
- The limitations of current industry ESD standards, including S 20.20, for Class 0
- The leading cause of ESD failure in today’s manufacturing environment
- Two guiding principles you must understand to manage the Class Zero risk
- The one single ESD Class 0 mitigation method you cannot be without
- A ten-step process to help you prepare, and to become ESD Class 0 ready

This eLearning course is available in LAN or WEB-based formats and can be hosted externally by ALC or internally on your company servers. You can also order this LearnTech® Web-learning course for individual use via secure on-line purchase.
