The SCHF is pleased to welcome Dr. Donald Simmons, associate professor of leadership and public service at Dakota Wesleyan University as he premiers the film documentary, “Hungry for Green: Feeding the World Sustainably,” on January 4, 2010.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is pleased to welcome best-selling author and instructor, Carolyn Haines. She will present a lecture and book signing on Friday, February 19 at 6pm and also a writing workshop on Saturday, February 20 at 10am

The SCHF welcomes Bill Ferris as he presents his newly published book, GIVE MY POOR HEART EASE: VOICES OF MISSISSIPPI BLUES. Bill will conduct a reading and a multimedia presentation. The program will be held Monday, December 14 from 4pm-6pm.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation (SCHF) is honored to receive a proclamation from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi declaring October as Southern Cultural Heritage Month.

This event will offer a variety of entertainment through different genres of classic music. Local entertainers and local restaurants will provide the music and lunch on Fridays from 12:00pm-1:00pm beginning October 9th and concluding October 30th.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is thrilled to welcome the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science Stage Band & Choir on Friday, October 2 at 6:00pm.

The SCHF is delighted to present “FISH TALE”, the Story of Peter. John Maxwell performs this one-man show as we look at the life of Jesus through the eyes of an illiterate blue-collar worker whose name is Peter.

The SCHF will present the classic “OH, MR. FAULKNER, DO YOU WRITE?” as a dinner theater performance on October 1, 2009. The play is John Maxwell’s one-man show based on the life of Mississippi’s own, William Faulkner.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is pleased to welcome the talented John Maxwell as he presents his own Creative Writing Workshop. He will guide students through the writer’s journey in creating monologues of their own.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation of Vicksburg has been awarded a $21,750 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC). This grant is a portion of the $1.5 million in grants the Commission will award in 2009-2010.

The SCHF is delighted to introduce beginner Traditional Irish Dance classes. Irish dancing is great fun, terrific exercise and will help to fine tune or develop the participant’s sense of rhythm. These workshops will be held on Saturday, July 11.

Introducing the “Casa Dos” house by Dura Sip. The Casa Dos is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, lightweight and rapidly constructed home. The Casa Dos is a cost effective solution to much of the world's housing shortage.

This workshop will teach the student how to build a small stained glass panel using the Tiffany style (cooper foil method).

The SCHF proudly presents A Chocolate Affair on Thursday, May 7th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. This elegant evening will include a plethora of chocolate desserts, drinks and entertainment by Jim Robinson and Maria Adona.

Students will learn about and create unique bamboo wind chimes with Rob Mendrop, landscape specialist and bamboo man.

Vicksburg will celebrate Mardi Gras in style at the 7th annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 8:00pm in the Southern Cultural Heritage Auditorium. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Colonels.

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation presents the 2nd Annual Holly Days Arts and Crafts show. The Show will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 9:00am-3:00pm. It will precede Vicksburg Main Street’s Annual Christmas Parade at 5pm.
