NEW YORK - July 11, 2016 - PRLog -- The Spark Design Awards, launched in 2007 and celebrating its 10th year, recognize design excellence across a broad range of categories for both professional and student designers.

Spark has completed the Spring round of the Product and Concept design categories. Entrants ranged from vast aerospace groups to design consultancies and students. Likewise the entries themselves varied widely, from the NAVii by Fellow Robots to the August Doorbell Cam by Fuseproject.

Product Design highlights include six winners in the top tier Spark! Award: Prime by Chicago Cutlery (Lead: Karl Ludeman, World Kitchen); OZO VR Camera (Lead: Axel Meyer, Nokia Technologies); HTC Vive VR Headset (HTC Design); Enroute Transcarotid Neuroprotection System (Lead: Dan Harden, Whipsaw); HTC 10 Mobile (HTC Design) and The Access Strength Workout System (Lead: Ryan Elder, Include Fitness). (Full list below.)

Many other designs stood out, including the striking TetraPOT, a shoreline erosion prevention system by Sheng-Hung Lee. Also notable is the Waterfront Aircraft Seating System, by the design teams at B/E Aerospace, Panasonic Avionics, TEAGUE and Formation Design Group. The jury, chaired by IDEO Founder Mike Nuttall, faced a day of difficult choices. However, by the end of the judging, the choice of the top submissions was clear. Juror Arnold Wasserman summed up the work, "In reviewing this year's SPARK winners overall, the jury noted a direction toward simplicity, fun and invisible technology - a trend to celebrate design and utility and hide the complicated technical stuff."

Asked about the efficacy of Design Awards, Spark Juror John Guenther, ex-Director of Design, Hewlett-Packard commented, "Competitions level the playing field by making visible new and innovative design thinking from everyone from students to small design firms."

Even big design organizations are surprisingly thrilled to have the intensity of design innovation made publicly visible by design competitions, especially from small firms or individuals.  It benefits them and all by continuously raising the bar of excellence and striving to always move the profession forward. It's one of the important ways we benchmark our profession."
