ATLANTA - Jan. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- The pressure has been on for US technology companies to hire outside of typical comfort zones… anyone other than white men. On Wednesday, Pinterest, which was valuated at $11 billion last year (http://www.inc.com/jeff-bercovici/pinterest-11-billion.html), announced efforts to push in that direction with the hiring of its very first head of diversity. Candice Morgan’s job, in short, will be to help Pinterest come up with effective ways to hire more African American women, and other women of color.

Pinterest Does What Twitter Wouldn’t Do

Just less than two weeks before Wednesday’s announcement, Twitter was put on blast for hiring a white man, Apple’s Jeffrey Siminoff, to lead its diversity hiring campaign. On the other hand, Pinterest’s first diversity chief, Candice Morgan, is an African American businesswoman, not a white male.

Morgan’s goal is to help the visual social media networking company reach the diversity hiring goals it set in 2015. Under her lead, Pinterest intends to roll out two new HR programs. Both were designed to help increase diversity among the people Pinterest hires:

1. Apprenticeship program, which will last 1-year long, for job candidates with backgrounds in non-traditional technical fields

2. Summer intern program, which will last eight weeks, for college freshmen working on degrees in engineering and other technology-related fields

According to the Fortune, Pinterest is very enthusiastic about hiring college students from underrepresented groups. It’s encouraging qualified candidates from all groups of color to apply to these programs. Twitter, on the other hand, has opted for using a white male to diversify its staff.

Pinterest Guru Shares Secrets to Increasing Page Views in Just 28 Days

Pinterest’s appointment of an African American woman to lead the diversity hiring efforts is opening doors in other areas for women of color. Many Pinterest marketers and Pinterest for B2B marketers believe this will drive even more Black women and other women of color to start utilizing the Pinterest site for business marketing purposes.

One woman, Pinterest Guru Toiia L. Rukuni, has believed in the power of Pinterest for business marketing for years. The launch of the Pinterest diversity hiring programs encouraged her push forward in helping other women of color learn how to use Pinterest for business marketing purposes. According to Rukuni’s blog post entitled, “How To Increase Your Page Views In 28 Days Utilizing Pinterest Marketing: The 4 Most Effective Steps (http://motheroftheworld.net/?p=758)” (http://bit.ly/1mK1mOX):

“Pinterest is the third largest traffic driver worldwide behind Facebook and Twitter. Instagram is quickly moving up the social media ladder coming in a close fourth, followed by Tumblr and SnapChat.”

According to Kiesha Joseph, CEO of Content Marketing Geek (http://contentmarketinggeek.com/) (http://contentmarketinggeek.com/):

“We’re taking Toiia’s Pinterest Coaching Workshop to help us promote a writing contest for girls sponsored by Empowering Black Girls. This particular brand really needs the power of Pinterest for business behind it for this contest to succeed.

Before we started the workshop, weekly reports showed that our pins were getting about 10 daily impressions, with 8 average daily viewers. The week after implementing tips 1 & 2 of Toiia’s Pinterest tutorial coaching sessions, our daily impressions rose to 181, and average daily viewers increased to 75. And, for the record, that’s without adding new content to our pinboards.”
