Rx Partnership Receives $10,000 Critical Community Needs Grant from Dominion

Grant will be used to provide the equivalent of $14.3M in prescription medications

KILMARNOCK, Va. - Jan. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Rx Partnership announced a $10,000 grant from Dominion that will help provide critical prescription medications to more than 12,000 uninsured Virginians across the state.

“Because we work directly with the free clinics and pharmaceutical manufactures to obtain medication in bulk, Dominion’s $10,000 gift will help us distribute the equivalent of $14.3 million in life-saving medications for patients with chronic conditions, such Alzheimer’s, depression, asthma, diabetes and hypertension,” said Amy Yarcich, executive director of Rx Partnership. “A donation like this can make all the difference to these patients and the clinics with limited resources.”

The Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic (NNMFHC) uses Rx Partnership as one of its primary tools in obtaining medicines for its low-income, underinsured patients.

“We couldn’t take care of our patients without RxP,” said Clinic Pharmacist Britney Dedmond. “RxP monitors our use  and distribution, conducts audits regularly to assure medicines are going to eligible patients, and helps us navigate efficiently through a complex system to help secure medications for those in need.”

Over its 22 years, through October of 2015, the Clinic has delivered more than $80 million worth of health care to 13,100 individuals in its five-county service area, and distributed 480,477 prescriptions.

Rx Partnership is an innovative public/private partnership that increases access to medications for the most vulnerable populations in Virginia, such as low income or elderly patients who are uninsured. Rx Partnership connects 20 free clinics across the state directly to the pharmaceutical manufacturers donating medication in bulk. In fiscal year 2015, Rx Partnership helped more than 12,747 uninsured Virginians receive 62,490 prescriptions with a retail value of $14.3 million.

“Rx Partnership helps remove barriers to health care access,” said Hunter M. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Foundation. “We are honored to partner with an organization that has an immediate and lasting impact on the individuals, families, and communities who are helped by their programs.”

The grant was given through the Critical Community Needs grant program, funded by Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, parent company of Dominion Virginia Power.
