EUS workshop heralds brand new GE Centre at Lanka Hospitals

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Dec. 31, 2015 - PRLog -- Workshop to educate on high end new clinical equipment Lanka Hospitals(http://www.lankahospitals.com/) is poised to commission in the coming days, an ultra-modern GE (Gastroenterology) Centre with cutting edge technology, latest high-end equipment and the best clinical expertise in the country. The new GE Centre of Lanka Hospitals will be a self-contained unit specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gastro-intestinal, hepatology and respiratory disorders and will be headed by a team of consultant gastroenterologists and consultant surgeons.

In view of the new GE Centre launch, LH organized several workshops; the first of which was successfully concluded on the 22nd October. The two day workshop, facilitated by Dr. Bavesh Dhoshi Consultant Gastroenterologist, National University Hospital Singapore, was organized to introduce and train experts on the EUS and EBUS machine, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, now housed in the brand new GE Centre of Lanka Hospitals. “Thank you for organizing the workshop well and for the facilities provided. Among the special invitees in the workshop, renowned Gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, Onco-surgeons, Physicians of Sri Lanka were present.

(Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) combines endoscopy and ultrasound in order to obtain images and information about the digestive tract and the surrounding tissue and organs, by providing refined black and white pictures, contrast enhanced ultrasound or even techniques assessing the hardness of the tissue. It allows to better characterize the lesion and improves differential diagnosis space occupying lesions. Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) using linear probes is an emerging techniques capable of detecting even small mediastinal lymph nodes which can be biopsied using high sophisticated systems.)
